I write at the end of an interesting weekend. My weekend actually began on Friday when I visited dental showcase at the Excel exhibition Centre in London. My preparation began on Thursday evening whilst I was looking at the brochure to see which stands I would be visiting. I took the 7:07 AM train from Stockport to London Euston which takes one hour and 51 minutes to get to London. It is truly amazing that one can get from the centre of Manchester to the centre of London in just about two hours. The Virgin Trains service between Manchester and London is truly fantastic. I have nothing but praise for it. It effectively runs trains every 20 minutes at most times of the day going right into the evening. The recent news that it was going to lose the franchise from 1 December 2012 was truly awful. The subsequent news that the tendering process was flawed and had been miscalculated was even worse. Richard Branson has succeeded in creating an unprecedented level of brand awareness for its products from holidays to financial products to trains to planes and even space travel. It has been in the news that Virgin is going to move into the healthcare sector primarily medical. It would be interesting if they did move into dentistry. Personally I feel that dentistry is too much of a hot potato for even Richard Branson to take on.
